Only two lives were lost while 18 people were injured from 52 accidents recorded on Independence Day, which represents a drop from 11 deaths over the same period in 2020.
Last year, 20 people were injured in 46 road accidents.
Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said motorists need to continue complying with road rules and regulations.
“Police are concerned with the loss of human life on the roads and appeals to all road users to be safety conscious when driving by respecting other road users,” he said.
“Let us play our part to make roads safe and not deathtraps and, above all, comply with all road and regulations.”
