A 25-year-old Harare man is claiming US$4 000 in medical bills after being struck by a car at a pedestrian crossing point in July.

This emerged at the Harare Civil Court where Mr Fungai Dehwa, who sustained a broken leg from the accident, is claiming damages from Mr Kelvin Nyandure who was driving the vehicle.

The accident occurred on July 9 2024.

“He was speeding and ran me over at a zebra crossing,” said Mr Dehwa. “He was supposed to pay for my hospital bills, but he only bought bandages and pills that lasted for one week.

“I was advised to have an operation so that they put a stainless steel on my leg.”

In defence, Mr Nyandure claimed he had settled the said bills.

“I gave him ZiG14 252 for the operation and US$550 for the medicine,” he said. “I know I was wrong, but this four thousand dollars is too much.”

Presiding magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam advised the two to agree on a fee and approach the court again.
