THE Agricultural Information Management System (AIMS), which is aimed at mainstreaming information and communications technology into agriculture, was launched in Mutare today.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony, Deputy Minister for Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, Climate and Rural Development, Vangelis Peter Haritatos, said: “We did a national launch in Harare and we are here in Mutare to launch the provincial one. The launch is a very critical development. The importance of AIMS is that it brings in modern technology into our agricultural systems. Farming is a business and it is important for us to bring in technology for the food production systems. It brings in green economy and smart agricultural practices. It will help us with the necessary information on how to advise our farmers on what to do and how to do it.”

Effective AIMS provides policy makers, planners and economic players’ access to reliable and timely information that is necessary for policy development, emergency preparedness and planning.

It is set to be benefit local farmers and other stakeholders.
