NATIONAL OIL Infrastructure Company of Zimbabwe (NOIC) and its subsidiary Petrozim Line yesterday handed over to Government refurbished eight classrooms that were destroyed by the devastating Cyclone Idai three years ago at Mutsvangwa Secondary School in Chimanimani.

The classrooms, which were refurbished at a cost of US$136 000, come as a major relief to learners and staff who had been conducting lessons in the open since the tragedy struck.

To top the donation, NOIC also donated a total of 12 500 exercise books for learners’ use in schoolwork.

Speaking while officiating the handover ceremony, Minister of Energy and Power Development, Zhemu Soda, applauded the gesture by NOIC saying it will help speed up Government’s drive towards Vision 2030 of attaining an upper-middle income economy.

“The noble gesture by NOIC in facilitating access to education by children in less privileged communities align squarely with our President’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind as we journey towards Vision 2030.

“The initiative by NOIC is an important cog of activities where Government ensured that infrastructure and other basic amenities were restored in the aftermath of the Cyclone Idai. It is our hope that this effort by NOIC, combined with efforts of passionate and committed teachers will inspire and motivate students to work hard in their studies,” he said.
