NEW: Alleged armed robber arrested in Chegutu

A 27-year-old suspected armed robber, who was part of a gang that recently attacked a Honda Fit near Pickstone Mine, as well as causing a lot of havoc in the Chegutu area, has been arrested.

A crack team from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has intensified operations as robbery cases surge in the country.

In a similar development, some armed robbers were arrested last week after a shoot-out with police.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they had arrested Leon Shonhai arrested but his accomplices are still at large, as investigations remain in progress.e

Leon Shonhai (27) was arrested allegedly in connection with a robbery case which occurred at Pickstone Mine in Chegutu on August 02.

“The robbers ransacked the complainant’s Honda Fit and stole two leather jackets and US$30.”

“Suspects later abandoned the car after ramming onto a tree at the 28km peg Chegutu-Mubaira Road,” read part of the communique.

The ZRP is also urging motorists against hit and run accidents.

“A man aged 45, yesterday at around 0500hrs in the morning was hit by an unknown motorist at Skyline Tollgate along Beatrice road.

“The victim died on the spot and the driver is still at large,” reads part of the statement on Twitter.

On July 31, 2021 another man aged 43 was hit by an unknown motorist along independence road in Hwange.

“The victim sustained some injuries and currently admitted at St Patrick’s Hospital,” said ZRP on its Twitter handle.
