ANOTHER earth tremor was felt in Chipinge and the surrounding areas today.
The tremor occurred barely a month after another one was felt last month on April 17.
Chipinge District Meteorological Officer, Ms Lydia Masengu, confirmed the incident which happened around 7.22am, and said the tremor had a magnitude of 3,9 on the Richer Scale.
The last earth tremor had a magnitude of 4,4.
“The epicentre was in Mozambique(Mossurize), but it was widely felt in Chipinge Town and surrounding areas. No reports of damage were received. More inquiries will be made to determine its intensity in the locality and the exact areas where it was felt,” she said.
The Zimbabwe-Mozambique eastern border area is prone to earth movements due to natural plate tectonics.
This is attributed to the East African Rift System (EARS) which extends into Mozambique.
Manicaland is a seismically active region, evidenced by the many moderate to large earthquakes occurring each year.
