NEW: Armed robbers target ZIMSEC exam material?

POLICE are hunting for two suspected armed robbers, in connection with the murder of a security guard at St Augustine Mission in Penhalonga on Wednesday, after exchanging gunfire with the school’s security in a bid to gain entry into a science laboratory containing ZIMSEC examination material.

In a statement on Thursday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the unidentified suspects escaped soon after the shootout incident around 0200 hours.

“The ZRP is investigating a murder case which occurred at St Augustine Mission, Penhalonga on December 9, 2021, at about 0200 hours, where a security guard who was on duty at the premise, died in unclear circumstances when two unknown male suspects entered the school premises and went to the science laboratory block,” reads the statement.

“The suspects escaped after a shootout incident with a police officer who was guarding 2021 ZIMSEC examination material.”
