New avenue for poets in Bulawayo

A NEW entertainment concept, Random Poets, which is meant to give upcoming poets a chance to carve their names, has been established in Bulawayo.

It came alive in June and one of the organisers of the weekly event which takes place every Tuesday at Centre Pub, Bongelani Ncube, better known as Mavuvu, reckoned: a?Itas an idea that came into beingA last month. Itas vision being to promote local talent. We came up with the concept after we realised that there are a lot of poets that need exposure. Our main aim is to promote, groom and expose Bulawayoas talented poets.a?

He added: a?A number of poets have graced the event and we are still calling for more to come and perform. Itas an ideal virgin platform that we realised will help artistes to realise their dreams.a?

Courtesy of the initiative, poets perform to live instruments and accapella while addressing themes around Africanism, peace, love and harmony.

Unheralded poets that include Siboe, Joel, Sage M One, Larry, Skeinah, Louzz Cooper, Mad Poet and Thando are some of the regular performers at the weekly event which has been starved of corporate support.

a?We need sponsorship and as an initiative that is meant to appeal to a broader audience we have opened a Facebook page,a? said Ncube.
