NEW: Avondale Primary School bursar in dock over US$6 000 swindle

An Avondale Primary School bursar appeared before a Harare court on Saturday facing charges of theft of trust property after allegedly converting over US$6 300 of school funds for personal use.

Magistrate Mrs Evelyn Mashavakure remanded Mejuly Ruvingo (48) in custody to October 27.

Prosecutor Mr Thomas Chanakira told the court that on unknown dates between 2019 and September 2022, the accused took advantage of her job as bursar to pilfer US$550 from the school’s blazer fund.

It is also alleged that she illicitly used school debit cards to undertake transactions worth US$4 629 on different occasions and failed to account for 706 litres of fuel valued at US$1 207.

The court also heard that the accused allegedly stole school laundry soap and tissue paper rolls.
