NEW:  Avuxeni FM, a new milestone for Chiredzi

CHIREDZI has marked a new milestone, following the opening of its first community radio station, Avuxeni FM.

This is part of Government’s fulfilment of its 2018 harmonised election pledge of further opening up of the airwaves for more community radios.

The radio station is currently accessible in Chiredzi, Chikombedzi and Mwenezi.

Station manager, Mr Thomas Chauke, said they are working to extend its reach to Rutenga and Malipati.

“We are pleased with the progress so far and how the locals are receiving the station. We are getting positive feedback,” he said.

Mr Chauke said the radio station is currently operating with minimum staff, who are largely volunteering locals.

However, he added that the station needs a back-up generator in case of electricity power cuts.

“Load shedding largely affects us because we entirely rely on ZESA, which means whenever there are power cuts we cannot broadcast,” he added.
