POLICE have nabbed six suspects, who are believed to have been involved in a robbery incident along the Beitbridge-Masvingo highway on Monday.

As robberies have escalated in recent months, police have intensified its operations against the crimes.

One of these robbery incidences took place on December 21, when a motorist lost cash and various goods to robbers near a bushy road connecting the Beitbridge-Masvingo highway.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said the six suspects are now in police custody.

“We have arrested six people in connection with the Beitbridge robbery case, Ntanganedzani Muleya (28), Believe Shumba, Alias Chipanga (32), John Bhunu (34), Nigel Pandukai (27), and David Ratsauka (29).

“The suspects attacked the complainant, who was driving a Toyota Hiace Kombi from Beitbridge to Rutenga and stole ZAR200 cash, a cellphone, various groceries, two tyres as well as electric tubing pipes.

“The complainant had stopped the vehicle to tighten a rope, which was securing a bed that was on top of the vehicle when the suspects emerged from the bush,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said.
