Herentals forward and 2021-22 Castle Lager Soccer Stars finalist Tinotenda Benza finally received his Chibuku Super Cup Golden Boot Award at Motor Action Sports Club on Thursday.

The young forward scored two goals in four matches in domestic football’s premium knock-out competition.

Benza described the honour as a big achievement.

“It has been a great season for me, having made it among the best eleven players for the 2021-22 Castle lager Premier Soccer League season and making it into the Chibuku Super Cup final.

“To now be honoured with a golden boot award means a lot to me as a player,” said Benza.

The award comes as a small consolation for the young forward, whose charges lost out on the 2021-22 Chibuku Super Cup gold medal to Bulawayo Chiefs after a one-nil defeat a fortnight ago.

“I am grateful for the award. But I want to do better in the next edition and help my team win the trophy, which we lost in the final,” he said.

The young Benza credits his 2021-2022 season success to his teammates, while giving special mention to his father, Innocent Benza, for pushing him.

“I wouldn’t have achieved what I have achieved this season had it not been of my teammates. This is a result of teamwork and again special mention goes to my father for motivating me.”

The duo of Innocent and Tinotenda Benza wrote their own piece of history in the Chibuku Super Cup as they became the first father-and-son duo to feature in the final.

“It is a special feeling to play alongside your father in a final. The feeling was just surreal,” said the young Benza.
