TOURISM and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi has appointed new boards for the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) and Mosi-Oa-Tunya Development Company (Pvt) Ltd, signalling a strategic push to modernise the country’s tourism infrastructure and marketing.

The appointments, confirmed at a Press briefing on Tuesday morning, seek to align the sector with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and the national goal of achieving an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.

The ZTA board will be chaired by Farai Chimba, a seasoned hotelier and will be supported by vice chairperson Lizzie Makwezwa, a hospitality executive with 25 years of experience across local and international hotel brands.

In her speech, Minister Rwodzi said: “These board members bring immense experience and expertise that will be invaluable in providing strategic guidance and robust oversight… to ensure the institution strengthens its promotion strategies.”

The other ZTA board members are Charles Munganasa, Charity Magutorima, Jeffreys Manjengwa, Gamuchirai Mangundu, Millicent Sibongile Mombeshora, Godfrey Pasipanodya, Tarirai Musonza and Napoleon Nyanhi.

For the Mosi-Oa-Tunya Development Company—the government’s investment arm for the Victoria Falls special economic zone—Minister Rwodzi appointed Civil Engineer Phineas Makombe as chairman.

He is deputised by Sheila Hawa Sidambe, who returns to the board after serving for four years.

Minister Rwodzi said the board will play an “enabling role” in advancing tourism infrastructure and facilitating high-value investments in Victoria Falls.

Other board members are Priscila Charumbira, Jarawani Stragle Kangara, Anton Venson Kashiri, Sherinah Sibanda, Jameson Mupariwa Mukaratirwa, Pianos Gweme, Donald Simbarashe Mabhiza, Comfort Chinengundu, Gladys Chinyerere, Phindile Ncube and Rashidi Mudala, who is representing the Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe.
