PROFESSIONAL boxer Dumezweni Ntuliki has established new home for amateur boxers in Nketa 8, Bulawayo. He believes his effort will go a long way in assisting several city youths achieve greatness in a sport associated with the likes of Kilimanjaro, Langton Schoolboy Tinago and Arifonso Zvenyika.
The sport has emerged as one of Bulawayo’s strongest points at the Zimbabwe National Youth Games. This year the city dominated the competition scooping gold in 10 of the 11 disciplines.
Ntuliki said as a former amateur boxer who had to travel across town to Makokoba for training at Tshaka Youth Centre he had felt compelled to bring the sport to youths in his neighbourhood.
“We have so many promising youngsters but they do not have proper training facilities, so we engaged the city council and they gave us the hall to use for training,” he said.
He has 25 boxers training under his wing, 20 of whom are boys and five girls.
Notable boxers are Zimbabwe National Youth Games medalists Arnold and Brighton Musiyambumbi.
Membership is free.
Ntuliki has challenged the business community in the suburb to come forward and support the youths in sport. “I was inspired by Mike Tyson when I grew up, I have a dream to groom these youngsters to that level, I hope that the corporate world would chip in so that we can start having tournaments in future,” he said.
Ntuliki is working with veteran coach Petros Masiyambumbi.
