Parents who intend to enrol their children in boarding school should use the online application system to avoid falling prey to some corrupt officials.
The Schools Development Association/Committees secretary, Mr Evaristo Jongwe, said the system was operating seamlessly.
The online application system was introduced in 2019 to manage Form One enrolment in boarding school.
“The online platform was established to safeguard parents, so they need to use it to their advantage and curb corruption,” he said.
“Establishing the system has been a gradual process, but it has been improving by the year, making life easy for applicants.”
He called on parents to avoid the last-minute rush to secure places for their children, adding that this practice fuels corruption.
Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson Mr Taungana Ndoro said:
“We had to work around the clock to ensure that things run smoothly this year.
“So far, we have not received any complaints regarding online applications.
“Government is conducting an inventory to ascertain how many boarding places are available for Form Ones.
“There will no longer be a bunk bed system as well. Further, a limited number of pupils will be allowed per hostel to curb the spread of Covid-19.”
