New British ambassador to Zim appointed

THE United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth (FCO) office has appointed Catriona Laing as the new British ambassador to Zimbabwe taking over from Deborah Bronnert who has served in the country since September 2011.Bronnert will be transferred to another diplomatic service appointment while Laing will take up her appointment in September.  Laing joined the FCO in January 2012 when she was posted to Afghanistan.

She is an economist by background and has spent much of her career in Africa serving in Botswana, Kenya, Sudan and Somalia. Before joining the FCO, Laing worked in the ministry of justice as the director for human rights and international relations.

She also served as a head of department in various departments of the Department for International Development (DFID) in Sudan, Eastern Europe and Latin America.
