A 30-year-old Budiriro man who sold his father’s land, which had already been bought by another person, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Monday facing US$3 500 fraud charges.
Joseph Matimati was remanded in custody until February 12 2024, when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Munashe Chibanda.
The court heard that in January 2015, the complainant bought a residential stand from the accused’s father, Mr Morgen Matimati who is now late, for US$3 500, and was given an affidavit to that effect.
But sometime around May 2018, Joseph, acting in connivance with his accomplice Innocent Chirimuuta (who is currently on bail), approached one Trueman Dzimiri who was looking for a residential stand to buy in Eastview, Harare.
The duo then sold the said residential stand to Dzimiri for $4 000.
On February 14 2023, the complainant went to his residential stand to commence building, only to discover that his stand had been sold to Trueman Dzimiri.
The complainant made a report to the police leading to the arrest of the accused.
