Security systems at all the country’s ports of entry have been enhanced by adding, among other interventions, sniffer dogs.

This follows increased cases of smuggling at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) public relations and communications manager Ms Annajulia Hungwe said they are working with multiple stakeholders to continuously enhance security.

“Our airports have always been watertight with regards to security. However, as a continuous process to improve our systems in line with technological advances in the aviation security sector, we are bringing additional systems through the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport Development Project,” Ms Hungwe said.

“We are also working with key stakeholders and now have canine units trained to detect different types of prohibited items ranging from explosives to drugs and other items.”
