THE Rusape Town Council Chairman’s Christmas Cheer Fund yesterday distributed various foodstuffs and goods worth thousands of dollars to different charity organisations and less-privileged individuals in the town.

Speaking during the distribution of donations for the 2022 edition of the fund at Makoni Old People’s Home, Rusape Town Council chairman, Councillor Blessmore Pambureni said four homes – Simukai Child Protection, Nyangombe Refugee Camp, Carmelite Sisters and Makoni Old People’s Home – were the main beneficiaries as they each received a four-plate gas stove and a tank to ease the burden of power cuts.

Nyangombe Refugee Camp, despite not being in Rusape, received cement towards the rehabilitation of a house at the institution.

Cllr Pambureni added that the Fund is also repairing electrical and roofing defects at Makoni Old People’s Home which was posing a danger to inmates.

“We sourced three four-plate gas stoves for the homes so that they cope with power cuts. We also donated foodstuffs and clothes to these homes. 20 people living with disabilities also received food hampers.

“Two primary school learners were adopted and their fees will be catered for by the Fund. One of the children was abandoned at birth and was rescued by a well-wisher who eventually adopted her.

“We are grateful to our benefactors drawn from the business community, political parties, residents associations, Government departments and residents,” he said.
