FORMER Chitakatira High head girl Thelma Kujema, who is living with albinism, scored 14 points in last year’s Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) final examinations and is appealing for assistance to further her education at university level.
Thelma, who is a single-parented child, survives from the income her mother raises from piece jobs in Chipinge.
“I don’t know my father. My parents separated while I was very young and my mother is the one who takes care of me and my two siblings who now have their own families,” said Thelma who stays alone in Chigodora at a well-wisher’s home.
Thelma did both Ordinary and Advanced levels at Chitakatira High with the help of Christian World Outreach (CWO) organisation which was taking care of her school fees as well as other school-related requirements.
She read Economics, Business Studies and Statistics at A-level.
She wants to pursue either Risk and Insurance Or Financial Intelligence at university.
While in high school, she was appointed a prefect and later the head girl after the teachers noticed that she was a very bright student.
Chitakatira High matron for orphans and vulnerable learners, Ms Susan Mavudzi, said Thelma is a disciplined and hard working child.
“She excelled in her A-Level studies and we are appealing to well-wishers to assist her to further her studies at university. She is so talented and intelligent. If it was not for eyesight challenges due to albinism, she could have scored higher than that,” said Ms Mavudzi.
She also appealed to well-wishers to assist Thelma with food, clothing, a pair of glasses and sunscreen lotions.
Those willing to assist Thelma can contact her on +263 77 728 4959.
