Haipere, a new Chimurenga musician, is set to release his debut album, “Denga”, next week. The six-track album carries songs such as the title track “Denga”, “Chikumbiro”, “Mudemedeme”, “Ndagumbuka” and “Chaona”. In an interview with the Herald Entertainment, Haiperi said he decided to venture into the music industry to compensate for the absence of Chimurenga guru Dr Thomas Mapfumo.
“I have respect for music legends who started Zimbabwean genres.
“These people include Thomas Mapfumo, Oliver Mtukudzi, James Chimombe and Leonard Dembo among others,
“Some of these icons are now late and some are ageing so the zeal to continue from where they have left has forced me to venture into the industry at a time when many feel the industry is flooded,” he said.
He said his music is a fusion of Chimurenga and katekwe.
“I have tried my best to fill the shoes of Dr Mapfumo and what is left is for people to decide, but I am very confident that people will enjoy my music,” he said.
Haipere said he was set to launch his album in the streets.
“I am starting in Harare where I am going to have live performances at open places.
“I am starting in areas like Chitungwiza, Mufakose, Epworth. The aim is to reach out to many souls since it is a first project.
“I want to give it to the people so that they decide,” he said.
In the title track, the musician sounds like Dr Mapfumo proving that he was inspired by the musical legend.
He said music was an important tool to tackle issues that affect ,society.
Also, he believes music can have positive effects on the society, which he says is morally decadent at the moment.
Haipere says he will be working on videos soon to help market his new venture which he hopes will put him on the musical map.
