POLICE in Chipinge have launched a manhunt for a 35-year-old man who fatally stabbed his wife over infidelity allegations.

Edmore Mandevere of Mukono Village under Chief Mapungwana’s area allegedly stabbed his wife, Paida Madhochi after a failed counselling session by the latter’s aunt, Mrs Harriet Shupikai.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo, confirmed the incident.

“On September 25, Mandevere and Madhochi went to Mwandifura Village for counselling by the latter’s aunt. The two had a misunderstanding over Madhochi’s alleged infidelity.

“After the counselling, Madhochi refused to return to their matrimonial home and slept at Mrs Shupikai’s home,” said Inspector Muzondo.

He said yesterday (Tuesday), Mandevere phoned his wife and asked her to return home, but she refused.

He phoned her again and told her to come and collect her belongings, but she refused.

“Madhochi later went to collect her belongings in the company of her aunt. When they arrived at the Mandevere homestead, Mandevere armed himself with an Okapi knife and advanced towards Madhochi.

“She took to her heels, but fell down. Mandevere stabbed her on the left side of the chest,” said Inspector Muzondo.

Madhochi later succumbed to the stab wounds, while Mandevere disappeared from the scene.
