Chitungwiza Municipality has issued a public notice to residents owing the local authority to respond to a 14-day ultimatum before they lose their properties to debt collectors.

They said debtors have been hampering service delivery over the years.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the municipality said debt collectors will be unleashed on those who ignore the call.

“The Chitungwiza Municipality urges debtors to pay their dues within 14 days to avoid litigation and having their properties attached.

“Non-compliance will result in the issuance of summons, property attachment, and sale by public auction in terms of Sections 279 and 281 of the Urban Council Act that empower local authorities to recover debts,” reads the statement.

The council was owed close to ZiG159 million by residents as of August 31 this year.
