Online Reporter

WATER shortages in Chitungwiza and some residential areas in Harare are set to worsen following the temporary decommissioning of the Prince Edward Water treatment plant due to depleted water sources.

In a statement on Wednesday, Harare City Council said the water treatment plant will be up when the main water sources, Harava and Seke dams, are replenished.

“The City of Harare has announced the temporary decommissioning of the Prince Edward Water treatment plant due to the depletion of its water sources,” reads the statement.

“The Harava and Seke dams, which supply water to the plant, have dried up, forcing the city to halt operations.

“The Prince Edward plant is expected to remain decommissioned until the rainy season when the dams are replenished.”

Areas expected to be affected include Chitungwiza, Hatfield, Waterfalls and Msasa.
