THE City of Harare has officially adopted a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, a development hailed as a milestone in improving efficiency, accountability and service delivery.
Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume announced the breakthrough at a full council meeting yesterday, expressing optimism that the move would strengthen transparency and restore confidence in the city’s administration.
The ERP system will integrate critical council functions, including financial management, human resources and supply chain operations.
By digitising these processes, the council expects to streamline operations, plug revenue leakages and improve the accuracy of billing for ratepayers.
City of Harare said it had signed an agreement with service provider BIQ and assured councillors that the system will run smoothly once fully rolled out.
For years, the council has come under fire for relying on manual accounting systems, which have been blamed for inefficiencies, revenue losses and lack of accountability.
Outlining immediate priorities, Mayor Mafume said the system would help the council trace missing funds flagged by the Auditor-General’s Office, issue accurate bills to ratepayers and roll out additional IT packages aimed at enhancing service delivery.
“With this system in place, the City of Harare is entering a new era of efficiency, transparency and accountability,” Mayor Mafume said, adding that the development will ultimately benefit residents and stakeholders across the capital.
