New coaches for volleyball teams

THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association has announced the appointment of new technical personnel for national teams, in a move aimed at strengthening performance across all levels of the game.

According to the association, the appointments cover the senior men and women’s teams, as well as the Under-20 boys’ and girls’ squads set to compete in the Africa union Sports Council Region 5 Games competitions. For the senior men’s team, Itsanangu Abu Basuthu has been named head coach and will be assisted by Munyaradzi Mavima and Gift Chirebvu. The team manager’s role goes to Farai Mboto, while Munyaradzi Chita will serve as welfare manager for all national teams.

In the senior women’s set-up, Memory Dube takes charge as head coach. She will work alongside assistant coaches Leadme Muhlohla and Prisca Mhuru, with Febbie Dzomonda appointed team manager.

The Under-20 boys’ team will be led by head coach Kudzai Bakayidza, assisted by Mthulisi Mlilo, while Daniel Ruka takes up the team manager’s position.

For the Under-20 girls’ side, Patricia Muzokomba has been appointed head coach. She will be assisted by Nyashadzashe Takawira, with Barbara Dzoriwa named team manager.

The association called on all stakeholders to rally behind the newly appointed technical teams.
“We call upon all stakeholders to extend their full support to the appointed technical staff. Your co-operation, encouragement and partnership will be critical in ensuring our national teams are positioned for success and able to deliver exceptional performances on all platforms,” said the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association in a statement on Thursday.

ZVA expressed confidence that the new appointments will help position Zimbabwe’s national volleyball teams to improve performances in upcoming competitions.

Meanwhile, ZVA has announced that the 2026 Zimbabwe Open Tournament will be hosted by Hwange. It is the first time the tournament will be staged there, and a strong turnout from Matabeleland North teams is expected.
