New coal miners start operations

begun operating.
Mines and Mining Development Deputy Minister Gift Chimanikire said Appex, Clidder, Makomo Resources and WK Blasting had begun developing their concessions.
This is in contrast to the norm in the industry where most concession holders hold on to the claims for speculative purposes.
This has prompted Government to come up with a “use it or lose it” clause for mining concessions.
“We recently toured these mines and as Government we are happy with the progress made to date. We commend them for the good work they are doing,” Deputy Minister Chimanikire said.
“We are not happy with Liberation, which has not yet started work and we are yet to find out what could be the reasons for that.”
The deputy minister said Makomo Resources was operating at full capacity. He urged the companies to increase production to take advantage of rising coal demand in the world.
“There is an upsurge in demand for coal in regional and international markets considering that Australian mines are flooded,” he said.
“Countries like New Zealand are getting low-grade coal from Asian countries and with our high-grade coal we can exploit these markets,” the deputy minister said.
These companies, he said, should send scouts to various parts of the world and prioritise the exportation of coke which is four times the price of coal. – New Ziana.
