VETARAN Mutare-bred footballers Washington Arubi and Onismor Bhasera endured contrasting fortunes in the South African DStv Premiership, with mixed fortunes for their respective teams in the weekend fixtures.

While Arubi was relegated to the bench by Marumo Gallants in yesterday’s 1-1 draw at home to Kaizer Chiefs, Bhasera was the star of the show as his 73rd minute strike earned SuperSport United maximum points in a 2-1 victory against Maritzburg United on Friday evening.

The seasoned goalkeeper had started six of the previous games, while the defender made his third straight start after limping out in the first match.

Bhasera’s return has coincided with SuperSport United’s upturn in fortunes as they have won three successive games. This has seen the Pretoria-based side climbing up the ladder to sixth position.

On the other hand, Arubi’s Marumo Gallants are still searching for their first win of the season in seven attempts and are anchored second from bottom of the log.

The pair is among the longest-serving players in the South African Premiership.
