THE expansion of Nyamhuka Market vending stalls by Nyanga Rural District Council has been welcomed by vendors as a positive development that will help grow their businesses.

Devolution funds were used to finance the project.

In an interview, chairperson for the vendors’ association, Ms Josephine Machando said the move will ease overcrowding among vendors operating in the area.

She encouraged vendors to register with the local authority to enable them to operate legally at the market.

“As vendors, we are happy with this timely intervention by Nyanga Rural District Council to expand the stalls at Nyamhuka Market. This move brings less over overcrowding and promotes the ease of doing business. Now we have a duty to protect the property from vandalism. We hope our businesses will grow and enhance our livelihoods,” said Ms Machando.

She commended the council for installing street lights close to the market, saying this will help reduce theft, vandalism and robberies.
