THE City of Harare has removed more than 142 billboards that were illegally installed as it tries to keep the city clean and boost revenue collection.

The local authority’s head of corporate communications, Mr Stanley Gama, said companies and individuals who erected billboards on private property or roadsides must remove them with immediate effect or face fines.

“So far, we have removed 142 billboards. These are small signs, including teardrop banners,” he said.

“The city is urging businesspeople to immediately remove illegally installed billboards or face the possibility of being fined. All unpaid billboards are deemed illegal and will be taken down.”

According to City of Harare by-laws, it is illegal to erect billboards or any structure without a permit and approved plans.
