NEW: Court dismisses Magayas’ release bid

Online Reporter

THE bid by Prophet Walter Magaya and his wife, Tendai, for immediate release has been dismissed by the court, which ruled that claims of over-detention have no bearing on their continued custody.

The court advised the couple to seek recourse through proper legal channels if they believe their rights were violated.

Prophet Magaya spent a third night in custody following his arrest on 13 counts of fraud and five counts of rape.

His latest court appearance centred on whether his weekend detention was lawful.

Meanwhile, the State is opposing bail for Mrs Magaya, arguing that she poses a flight risk and could interfere with witnesses due to her influential role within the church.

Through his legal team, Prophet Magaya indicated that he will not apply for bail at the Magistrates’ Court but intends to do so at the High Court for both the fraud and rape cases.
