New ‘dancehall queen’ on the block

She performed alongside Ricky Fire at Agent Sasco’s show in the Harare Gardens early this year. She got everyone talking with her stinging lyrics and mastery on the microphone.
Angel Pee has been around for some time and only made her breakthrough after featuring on Ricky Fire’s song titled “Sei Wadaini”.
She has joined the likes of Lady B, Cally C and Lady Squanda, who are some of the most famous female chanters in the country.
“I started singing in church when I was five  years old and since then I’ve never looked back,” said Angel Pee.
She said despite starting her singing career in church, she found it difficult to compose gospel tracks.
“I fell in love with dancehall music and my parents were against the idea of me singing any type of music other than gospel and they tried to force me to compose gospel songs but it was not my thing,” she said.
The former Seke High 1 student said she was inspired by Zahara and her wish was to collaborate with the South African idol at some point.
“I am inspired by Jamaican musicians especially the likes of Sizzla Kalonji, Gentleman and Turbulence, to mention but just a few. However, all my great influence comes from  Zahara.”
She added that it’s not all rosy in the music industry as she is faced with a number of challenges such as gender discrimination, management and the relatively high cost that comes with recording music.
“I can’t compare myself to already established dancehall queens like Lady B, Lady Squanda and Cally C but my time will come for the fans to judge,” she said.
It remains to be seen whether Angel Pee will live to see her dream come true, but if she remains focused she is destined for greater heights.
