THE Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Olympic Day celebrations which were supposed to be held this Saturday have been postponed to Sunday due to clash of activities. The organisers said they had to move the event to pave way for a political rally to be held at the celebrations venue, White City Stadium.

Bhekumuzi Khumalo who chairs the local organising committee confirmed the  developments.

The Olympic day celebrations begin tomorrow with a band and teams marching from Mpopoma High School to White City Stadium to mobilise and drum up support for the day. Khumalo said preparations for this special day are going on well and declared that the city was ready to play host to the important event.

A number of sporting activities will be on display on the day with participants drawn from primary and secondary schools, college, amateur and professional athletes. Athletics, boxing, basketball, tennis, volleyball and equestrian sports will be part of the disciplines on display.

Olympic legends expected to grace the event are the members of 1980 Olympic Under-23 soccer team and Bosso legendary goalkeeper Peter “Captain Oxo” Nkomo and Tapiwa Mudyambanje as well as Golden Girls hockey team legend Pat Mckillop.
