IT might have taken them four tries, but reigning basketball league’s men and women champions, Foxes and Vixens, respectively, finally got their first wins of the new Harare Basketball Association (HBA) Super 6 last weekend.

Last season’s men’s champions, Foxes, outlasted Leopards Academy 99-76, while their female counterparts, Vixens, beat Greenstars 55-45 during Week Four of the newly formed league.

It was the first wins for both teams, which are owned by former Zimbabwe national team coach Kevin Ben, after a rough start to the 2022/2023 season.

The wins saw both teams jump a few rungs up the log standings, as they now sit fourth on their respective logs with five points from four games.

In the women’s draw, UZ Sparks maintained their 100 percent start to the season, courtesy of a 60-48 win over Harare City Hornets.

UZ Sparks top the women’s log standings with eight points from four games, while JBC, who beat Bunnies 58-39, are second with seven points from four games.

Bunnies (7), Vixens (5), Harare City Hornets (5) and Greenstars (4) wrap up the women’s standings.

In the men’s category, JBC also maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 95-56 win over Harare City Hornets, while UZ Stars outperformed Bucs 83-69.

Hornets top the men’s standings with eight points from four matches, while UZ Stars (7) and Leopards Academy (6) are second and third, respectively.

Foxes, Bucs and Harare City Hornets are all on five points.

Action resumes this weekend as the league enters the final games of the opening round of the HBA Super 6 at the City Sports Centre on Sunday.

In the women’s draw, JBC play Greenstars, while Harare City Hornets square off with Vixens.

The women’s category will be headlined by a top-of-the-table clash between high-flying UZ Sparks and Bunnies.

The main match of the day will see reigning champions Foxes clash with log leaders JBC, while Harare City Hornets meets Bucs.

UZ Stars will play Leopards Academy.
