TODAY (April 9) is a significant date on Zimbabwe’s showbiz calendar as the country remembers the late music legend, Leonard Dembo.
He passed away on April 9, 1996, at the age of 36.
Now, 29 years later, his memory remains as vivid as ever.
This year, Dembo would have turned 65, but his birthday will be celebrated posthumously.
A phenomenal lyricist and one of the finest guitarists Zimbabwe has ever known, Dembo was undeniably a game-changer in the sungura genre.
He has an impressive catalogue of albums, including “Kukura Kwedu”, “Kuziva Ambuya Huudzwa”, “Nhamo Moto”, “Ruva Rashe”, “Mai Nevana Vavo”, “Sharai”, “Kutinya Marimba”, “Chitekete”, “Tinokumbira Kurarama”, “Mazano”, “Nzungu Ndamenya”, “Paw Paw”, “Shiri Yakangwara”, “Hamungadaro”, “Ndiri Mudiki”, “Singles Collection Volume One”, and “Singles Collection Volume Two”.
