ZIMBABWE has recorded 9 762 cases of common diarrhoea and 10 deaths in a week, figures from the Ministry of Health and Child Care show.
According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care Weekly Diseases Surveillance report for the period October 24 to October 30, 2022, the country recorded 9 762 common diarrhoea cases and a total of 10 deaths. The report shows that Manicaland and Mashonaland Central provinces recorded the highest number of cases.
Reads part of the report: “Of the 10 deaths, six were reported from Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, with Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals reporting two, while Chitungwiza Central Hospital and Sanyati District Hospital both recorded one death each.
“Of the reported cases, 4 751 were under five-year olds. Manicaland and Mashonaland Central provinces reported the highest number of common diarrhoea cases of 1 568 and 1 438, respectively.”
The Ministry of Health and Child Care said the annual cumulative figures for common diarrhoea stand at 283 919 cases and 122 deaths.
