Newly appointed National Social Security Authority (NSSA) board chairperson Dr Emmanuel Fundira says he is ready to revive the authority, which is responsible for the welfare and wellbeing of thousands of pensioners.

His appointment was announced by Public Service Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima on Thursday morning.

With NSSA currently awaiting the outcome of a recently concluded forensic audit, Professor Mavima said Dr Fundira’s has his work cut out for him.

“It is my hope and expectation that through the leadership of Dr Fundira, the NSSA board will make sound decisions to ensure the well-being of NSSA beneficiaries and contribute to the socio-economic development of Zimbabwe through good investment decisions,” Prof Mavima said.

In his acceptance speech, Dr Fundira said he was committed to ensuring that NSSA was put back on solid footing.

“It’s a task I am determined to do and to carry out together with the assistance of the people who are already holding the organisation as it stands,” he said.

Dr Fundira takes over from Mr Percy Toriro, who resigned to pursue other interests.
