THE Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe will on Thursday host a high-profile gala to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year.

This year’s Chinese Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, falls on February 10, with the grand celebrations lasting for 16 days. 2024 is dubbed ‘Year of the loong Dragon’, symbolising power, strength, good fortune and success.

Dragons are revered creatures in Chinese mythology, often depicted as wise, benevolent and possessing immense power.

The Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Mr Zhou Ding, will preside over the gala that is expected to include several prominent guests such as Cabinet Ministers, senior Government officials, diplomats, Chinese nationals living in Zimbabwe, business people and friends of China.

The Asian giant has been Zimbabwe’s largest foreign investor, with the bulk of the country’s foremost economic projects bankrolled by Chinese investors.
