Foreign-currency earners will now pay their electricity bills in United States dollars, the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has said.

The development, which is part of strategies being implemented by the power utility to improve the power situation in the country, is with immediate effect.

“Foreign-currency earners will now be required to pay their electricity bills in United States dollars at an average tariff of US10,63c per kWh,” ZETDC said.

Exporters, the power utility also added, will now be paying US12,21c per kWh.

This comes a few weeks after the Ministry of Energy and Power Development Permanent Secretary Engineer Gloria Magombo said intensive energy users with free funds will be permitted to exclusively import electricity through ZESA to meet their needs.
