A 21-year-old man from Bindura has been sentenced to two years in prison after he was convicted of defrauding a local bottle store of beer worth $672 900 through generating fake EcoCash transaction messages.

Dunmore Ngorima appeared before Concession magistrate Mr Joshua Nembaware facing 10 counts of fraud.

It is the State’s case that on March 8, at Mansex Bottle Store in Concession, Ngorima misrepresented to the bartender that he had transferred $511 400 after producing a fake EcoCash message.

He went on to repeat the same trick on nine separate occasions.

The bottle store later discovered the prejudice and reported the matter to the police.
