TITLE aspirants Manica Diamonds and Premiership debutants GreenFuel concluded the first half of the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer campaign on a victorious note after getting the better of Bulawayo Chiefs 3-1 and Triangle United 2-0 respectively in the weekend fixtures played at Gibbo Stadium.
The Gems Boys kept their outside chances of clinching the championship after dispatching Amakhosi Amahle to stay in the hunt and consolidate their grip on third place with 29 points from 17 matches, while the Ethanol Boys steered safer from relegation to climb into 12th position with 20 points.
Brett Amidu and Michael Tapera were on target for the diamond miners, to add on to an own goal by a Bulawayo Chiefs defender.
Goals by Washington Mapuwa and Raymond Uchena carried the day for the Chisumbanje outfit to continue their revival under coach Rodwell Dhlakama.
While the two sides may be chasing different goals this season, their form over the past five games has been consistent and impressive.
Manica Diamonds have won three, while winning and losing one apiece of those matches to remain in the picture for a title challenge.
GreenFuel, on the other hand, have enjoyed an exactly similar run.
It takes the two sides into the second half of the season with high hopes of a fruitful and rewarding campaign.
Dhlakama remains upbeat about the remainder of the season.
“The Majority of the teams are still fighting relegation and we have to take each game as it comes. Our focus is on winning our next game and that will be most important thing for us,” said the seasoned trainer.
