MANICA Diamonds fluffed the chance to consolidate their place among the league’s early pacesetters when they battled to a 0-0 draw against visiting Bulawayo Chiefs in a Castle Lager Premiership match at Sakubva Stadium this afternoon.
With all the three teams above them dropping points yesterday, a victory today would have taken the Gem Boys within one point of new leaders Dynamos, who are joint top with Chicken Inn.
They are now third on 20 points, three off the pace.
While the the first half produced no lively action, the visitors upped the tempo in the second and were unlucky not to find the target.
Despite some uncharacteristic mistakes from the usually dependable skipper Themba Ndlovu, the hosts stood firm with Ndlovu’s partner at centre-back Eriya Mafirenyika mopping up the mess.
At the other end of the pitch, Manica Diamonds rarely threatened Bulawayo Chiefs’ goal.
It is now back to the drawing board for coach Johanisi “Dutch Mentor” Nhumwa to work out a winning formula following four successive draws.
