NEW: Gems off to the UK

ZIMBABWE national senior netball side, the Gems, have left for the United Kingdom where they will play 11 matches in different competitions, including the Celtic International Series.

The team took off at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport aboard Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa on Wednesday.

They are expected to stop over in England before connecting to Glasgow, Scotland for their first official assignment.

The tour is divided into two segments starting with a tri-nations world ranking contest running in Glasgow and Cardiff from November 1-6.

Zimbabwe, Scotland and Wales will battle it out in this meet while the second installment of the competition will see the Gems, Welsh Feathers, Scottish Thistles and Northern Ireland Warriors battling for the Celtic Cup in Glasgow from November 7-10.

They will play England in an international friendly on November 12 before returning home the day after.
