As of September 30, 2024, various clients owed Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) ZWG 589 919 618 and the water authority is taking all the necessary measures to ensure the recovery of the debt.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail, ZINWA Head Corporate Communication and Marketing, Mrs Marjorie Munyonga, said they were going to take various steps against defaulting clients to recover the debt.
“These methods include engagement with the debtors, installation of prepaid meters, taking legal action against defaulting clients, monthly mobile revenue collection exercises, implementing stop order arrangements for farmers and as a last resort, discontinuation of service,” she said.
Meanwhile, the installation of bulk prepaid water meters for Government institutions, local authorities, schools and related institutions is now in progress.
Mrs Munyonga said meters had been installed for Beitbridge Municipality and other facilities under the ZINWA Karoi Service Centre in Manyame Catchment.
“The exercise is now spreading to other areas with meters being installed as they are received and after fulfilment of the relevant processes.
“To date over 31 000 prepaid water meters have been installed in various centres where ZINWA provides service and these are Karoi, Hwange, Gokwe, Filabusi, Nyanga, Mutoko, Murehwa, Murambinda, Mvurwi, Guruve and Chivhu,” Mrs Munyonga said.
The roll-out of the prepaid water meters commenced in 2021, targeting mostly domestic users.
