Geo Pomona Waste Management is targeting to produce between 8 to 11 megawatts of electricity at its waste-to-energy recycling plant in Pomona by the end of next year.

This will be a crucial milestone in the company’s plans to generate approximately 22 megawatts of electricity once the plant becomes fully operational.

Speaking during a tour of the site by European Union Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Jobst von Kirchmann today, Geo Pomona Waste Management CEO Dr Dilesh Nguwaya said the company is still within its targets.

“There is no doubt that Geo Pomona Waste Management is gaining more attraction to the world as you see the visit of EU Ambassador, Prime Minister of Eswatini and Permanent Secretary of Lesotho,” he said.

“This means we are doing great in terms of waste management.”

Geo Pomona Waste Management project director Engineer Nyasha Chipfupa echoed Dr Nguwaya’s statement saying the waste-to-energy plant is expected to start working in 2025, creating 150 job opportunities in the process.

Mr Jobst von Kirchmann said: “What I see is really deeply impressive because it is a very modern waste site and it is not just a dump site as it was before.

“It is a state-of-art modern waste management which results in protection of the environment, reusing waste in cleaning water as well as the production of energy out of waste.”
