IN a bid to address the critical shortage of healthcare professionals in the country, the Government has increased the intake of registered general nurse training programmes, with a record 565 candidates recruited countrywide for the May intake.

A communique from the Ministry of Health and Child Care says 19 registered general nurse training schools have been allowed to admit students for the May intake, a major increase from previous years.

Additionally, seven primary care nurse schools have also been given the green light to recruit a total of 257 candidates.

“The Government of Zimbabwe has increased registered general nurse training.

“The training schools with the May intake are 19 and they recruited 565 candidates countrywide.

“There are seven primary care nurse schools and 257 candidates recruited. Mpilo Central Hospital has increased registered general nurses from 30 students last year to about 56,” reads part of the statement released on Thursday.
