NEW: Government hails Church for promoting peace and fighting drug abuse

THE Government has hailed the critical role that the Church is playing in promoting peace and helping to address drug and substance abuse.

Addressing a fundraising luncheon for the Salvation Army in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo said the Church should continue to pray for the country and its leadership.

“There should never be antagonism between the Government and the Church because leadership comes from God, and the Church should always ensure that it prays for them,” she said.

“Right now, we have the scourge of drug and substance abuse. Government can put in place several committees, but as long as the Church does not pray about it, it will all be in vain.”
