The Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), has taken into its custody a boy who was recently seen being assaulted by a male adult in a viral video.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare said the action was meant to ensure the safety of the child.

“The child was immediately rescued from the abusive environment to a place of safety in terms of section 14 of the Children’s Act (chapter 5; 06),” reads the statement.

“The child was assisted to access a comprehensive package of survivor-centred therapeutic services to ensure restoration of his physical, psychological and social functioning.

“On the other hand, the perpetrator, who happens to be the child’s father, has been arrested by the police, henceforth the law will take its course.”
