The Government has called for stakeholders, corporates and donors to support the St Giles Rehabilitation Centre in its efforts to improve the nation’s healthcare service delivery.

The centre provides assessment, therapy, and management for children and adults with physical, sensory, and learning difficulties. It is expanding its services to cater to the country’s growing need for mental health support.

Speaking during the organisation’s 60th Anniversar,y Open Day in Harare on Thursday, Health and Child Care Minister Dr. Douglas Mombeshora, represented by the deputy director for Rehabilitation Services in the Ministry, Mr Khuzi Ncube, acknowledged the centre’s valuable contributions to the development of healthcare services and delivery.

“The Ministry of Health and Child Care greatly appreciates the centre’s contribution to the development of healthcare services in Zimbabwe, particularly in the rehabilitation of injured and sick persons.” he said.

He said there is need for support from the corporate world and donors to complement the government’s work.

“It is also important for all of us to reflect deeply on our collective responsibility towards our communities, especially in the health sector.

“I encourage medical doctors and health experts in the government to support St Giles in its efforts to achieve self-sustainability through initiatives such as the Mental Health Rehabilitation.

“They are committed to improving health infrastructure and acquiring the necessary medical equipment for quality health service delivery,” said Mr Khuzi.

St Giles Medical Rehabilitation Centre board chairperson Ms Tariro Makanga said the centre rebuilds lives through physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy or hydrotherapy.
