Government will set up drug rehabilitation centres around the country to curb the effects of rampant drug abuse, a senior official has said.

Officially opening the National AIDS Council (NAC) journalists’ workshop in Chinhoyi on Wednesday, Health and Child Care Deputy Minister Dr John Mangwiro said Government will ensure that assistance for drug abuse victims is available to anyone who requires it.

“We have instructed hospitals that patients who are admitted for drug overdose should be given all the immediate assistance they need,” he said.

“Government is setting up rehabilitation centres in provinces and districts for those who need assistance through rehabilitation.

“Long-term measures are also being put in place in terms of rehabilitation centres.”

Government, Dr Mangwiro added, had already set up an inter-ministerial committee that is working on curbing drug abuse.
